Commencement FAQs

Commencement marks the culmination of your hard work, dedication, and the beginning of your next chapter. Whether you’re preparing for your graduation day or looking to reflect on your milestone, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Graduates can expect to receive a commencement invitation within two weeks of their degree or certificate being conferred.

Graduation refers to the official conferral of your degree once all academic requirements are met. Commencement is an optional, celebratory event that honors your achievement, while graduation is the formal completion of your program. To participate in the Capella Commencement, your degree must be conferred by the RSVP deadline.

Capella University is hosting in-person commencement ceremonies September 5-6, in Arlington, TX. Graduates who have been awarded their degrees by August 1, 2025, are eligible to participate in this event. To partake in the Arlington commencement, RSVPs must be submitted by August 4, 2025.

Upon conferral of your degree or certificate, you can purchase regalia through Jostens. Regalia is required for participation in the in-person ceremony. https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/customer/1213837/Capella-University
