Alumni Spotlight: Meghann La Tourelle, MS, on Earning Two Degrees and Pursuing a Doctorate

For Meghann La Tourelle, earning both a BS in Business and an MS in Information Technology from Capella University was about more than academic success. It was about perseverance, personal growth and building a better future for her family. Now, she’s continuing her academic journey in the Doctor of Education program, building on her experiences in business and technology.

Q1: What does earning your Capella degree mean to you personally and to your family?

Meghann La Tourelle, MS: Earning my degree represents perseverance and growth—not just for me, but for my family as well. It’s proof that hard work and balance are possible, even while raising a young child and managing a full career.

Q2. Looking back, what moment from your Capella journey makes you most proud?

Meghann La Tourelle, MS: I’m most proud of completing my capstone project, which tied directly into my professional stretch role. Seeing my academic work make a real impact at my organization was incredibly rewarding.

Q3. What helped you stay motivated through your programs when things felt challenging?

Meghann La Tourelle, MS: I stayed motivated by reminding myself why I started—to model resilience and curiosity for my daughter, and to keep growing as a leader in my field. Support from my family and mentors kept me going when things got tough.

Q4. If you could give one piece of advice to someone still working toward their degree, what would it be?

Meghann La Tourelle, MS: Stay organized, be kind to yourself, and celebrate progress, not just perfection. Every small milestone matters.

Q5. How does it feel to have completed two Capella programs — first your BS in Business and now your MS in IT?

Meghann La Tourelle, MS: It feels surreal and empowering. My bachelor’s degree provided a foundation in leadership, and my master’s degree deepened my understanding of innovation and technology—together, they’ve reshaped how I think and lead.

Q6. Now that you’ve graduated, what’s the next chapter or goal you’re most excited about?

Meghann La Tourelle, MS: I’m now pursuing my EdD at Capella University to complete a trifecta of education in business, IT, and education—bringing together efficient operations, great leadership, and personal growth. It feels like the perfect next step to blend everything I’ve learned into a meaningful, lasting impact.

Q7. In what ways do you see your new degree shaping your career or professional path?
Meghann La Tourelle, MS: This degree has already enhanced how I approach complex projects. It’s strengthened my ability to lead cross-functional teams, implement systems thinking, and drive digital transformation within higher education.
