Capella’s recent commencement in Arlington, Texas, held September 5 and 6, 2025, was a powerful reminder of the importance of celebrating academic achievement in person. More than 1,700 graduates crossed the stage during three ceremonies. For many, it was the first time they met faculty, classmates and staff face to face. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, pride and a sense of shared accomplishment.

If you are planning to graduate in 2026, here are a few reasons to consider showing up and celebrating in person:
1. Honor your milestone.
Crossing the stage in your cap and gown is a meaningful way to recognize your achievement. After balancing school, work and life, this moment offers closure and celebration. It is a visible, personal reminder of what you have accomplished.
2. Meet the people behind the screens
Commencement gives you the chance to connect in person with fellow graduates, faculty and Capella staff. The relationships you formed online can feel even more powerful when experienced face to face.
3. Celebrate with loved ones.
Commencement is also for your supporters. Invite your family and friends to share this moment with you. Many alumni say having their loved ones in the audience made the day even more meaningful.
4. The keynote speaker just may inspire everyone in the room.
Each ceremony features a keynote speaker with a message designed to encourage and uplift. These speeches often reflect the shared resilience and dedication that define the Capella experience.
5. Make it a vacation
Capella commencement weekends are held in cities worth exploring. Many alumni turn the trip into a celebration getaway with family and friends. Past ceremonies have been held in places like San Antonio, TX, New Orleans, LA, and Louisville, KY.
6. Take pride in the bigger picture
Attending in person connects you to the broader Capella community. Graduates from across the country gather to celebrate one another, creating a powerful reminder that your journey is part of something bigger.
