Cedric J. Moses didn’t wait for the right moment. While earning his business degree at Capella University, he balanced raising his son as a single parent and managing military-related disabilities, all while developing a startup idea in the pet technology space. “You don’t need perfect conditions to chase something extraordinary,” he says. “I earned my degree while building a company from scratch, raising my son alone, and managing disabilities from my military service.” He points to purpose as his source of motivation. “Anchor yourself in your purpose. When your why is strong enough, it will carry you through the hard days.”
The idea that eventually became BioTech Pet began as Cedric’s Capstone project, where he explored solutions to outdated pet identification methods. “As a father, veteran, and inventor, I believed there had to be a smarter, more humane way to protect our pets and understand them better,” he explains. “That’s when the idea struck, to merge AI with DNA science to create a noninvasive, intelligent pet care system.” What started as an academic project evolved into a growing business venture, shaped by Cedric’s vision and drive.
Cedric’s company, BioTech Pet, now focuses on how artificial intelligence and biotechnology can support more personalized pet care. His approach is grounded in innovation and informed by lived experience. He appreciated Capella’s flexible format, which allowed him to stay present for his family while completing his degree and continuing to develop his ideas. “Capella gave me flexibility, but it was my resilience, faith, and willingness to think bigger that helped turn a project into something real.”
Today, Cedric continues to grow his business while encouraging others to stay committed to their goals, even in the face of uncertainty. “If you’re balancing life and big dreams, keep going,” he says. “Because someone, somewhere, is waiting for what only you can build.”
