How one Capella grad is helping students find their futures and what we can all learn from her journey. When Dr. Carlotta R. Prince talks about her students; it’s clear she’s more than a school counselor—she’s a force in their lives.

Known as “school mom,” “auntie,” or even “big sister” to many, Dr. Prince has spent more than a decade helping young people across Michigan graduate from high school, enroll in college, join the military, or serve their communities through law enforcement.
She’s walked alongside thousands of students as they’ve taken the next step into adulthood—and she’s done it with unwavering dedication.
But long before the celebrations and cap-and-gown moments, Dr. Prince was a student herself. A two-time Capella University graduate, she earned both her master’s and doctorate degrees. “I was hired as a school counselor the same month I graduated with my master’s,” she says. “The residencies and my cohort shaped me into the counselor I am today. We shared resources, lifted each other up, and grew together.”
Now, she leads not only within her school district but also as CEO of Rhoad to College Consulting, LLC, where she supports even more students and families in navigating the path to higher education.
